This is my second tattoo. The start of my entire back piece. I did it in one 4 hour sitting. I still have about 20-30 minutes left just to put the blue in the top waves. It is Buddha inspired. I got it during a time when I was going through spiritual growth. I love water and I feel like it has always been a comfort element for me. The lotus is red and pink for these reasons...
Lotuses are symbols of purity and 'spontaneous' generation and hence symbolize divine birth. This is why the Buddha sits on a lotus in bloom. In Tantrism, it is the symbol of the feminine principle.
Red lotus - This symbolizes the original nature of the heart (hrdaya). It is the lotus of love, compassion, passion, activity and all the qualities of the heart. It is the lotus of Avalokitesvara.
Pink lotus - This is the supreme lotus, generally reserved for the highest deity, sometimes confused with the white lotus it is the lotus of the historical Buddha.
Not only is it beautiful, it obviously contains a LOT of personal meaning for you. That's the best kind of tattoo to have. I also am beginning the vague work of a full-back piece, and people have told me that some of my drawings would make good tattoos.
wow. thats a great tattoo. i really like your explanaition of it aswell. ive been looking into getting one for awhile. but would def want to be making a connection as to why im doing so too...i mean its a great symbol with deep meaning

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
